Everything you need to know
Facial volumetry is a non-surgical aesthetic procedure designed to restore or enhance volume
in targeted areas of the face. This technique helps rejuvenate facial features, creating a more
youthful, refreshed, and harmonious appearance-often in just a single session and without the
need for invasive surgery.
As we age, the skin gradually loses elasticity and volume due to a natural decline in collagen,
elastin, and hyaluronic acid production. This contributes to sagging skin, fine lines, hollow
cheeks, and a loss of definition in areas like the jawline.
The hyaluronic acid is one of the key components used in facial volumetry. The gel- like
substance is carefully injected into the skin to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, restore
volume to hollow and sunken areas, enhance lip fullness and shape, contour and define the
jawline and chin, improve overall facial symmetry and structure.
Procedure overview
The doctor uses a cannula or needle to carefully inject hyaluronic acid into targeted areas, delivering an instant volumizing and contouring effect. To ensure comfort, a topical anaesthetic cream with lidocaine is applied approximately 30minutes prior to the procedure. Following the treatment, mild redness, swelling,or minor bruising may occur at the injection sites, but these typically subside quickly.
How long do the results last
While you may notice an immediate improvement, the full results typically become visible within two weeks, once the hyaluronic acid has completely integrated with the surrounding tissue. The effect can last anywhere between 6 to 12 months, depending on several factors like
- Age, metabolism, genetics,
- Activity level -high intensity exercise can accelerate the breakdown of the product
- Extreme weather and frequent sun exposure can reduce longevity
- Type of product used-different products vary in density and ability to retain moisture, affecting how long they remain effective
- Injection site-areas with more muscle activity metabolize the product faster
- Lifestyle and diet-a healthy diet supports the skin health, while alcohol and smoking can reduce duration
Contraindications:
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Allergy to lidocaine or hyaluronic acid
- Blood-thinning medications (e.g. Warfarin, Pradaxa, Rivaroxaban, Apixaban)
- Active autoimmune diseases and cancer treatment
- Active cold sores
- Tendency to develop hypertrophic scars in the facial area
How to Prepare for the Procedure
Preparation is straightforward. Avoid alcohol, aspirin, and any supplements that may increase bleeding. On the day of the procedure and shortly afterward, avoid intense physical activity and sun exposure. - Reducing swelling
- Manging complications following hyaluronic acid treatment
HYALURONIDASE TREATMENT
Hyaluronidase treatment is a quick , minimally invasive procedure with minimal downtime. It is performed under local anaesthesia for maximum comfort. The treatment includes:
- Consultation-the doctor assesses the area and discusses the treatment goals and any concerns
- Allergy test-a small test dose is administrated into the forearm to check for any allergic reactions
- Injection-hyaluronidase is injected with a very fine needle directly in the treated area
- Action-The enzyme begins breaking done the filler almost immediately, with noticeable results typically appearing within hours to a few days
- Follow-up-Additional treatments may be scheduled if complete correction isn’t achieved in one session.
These side effects are generally short-lived and resolve on their own.
Post-Treatment Recommendations
- Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs, sunbeds and excessive heat for 7 days
- Refrain from alcohol and blood thinners ( unless prescribed) for 3 days
- Maintain good hygiene in the treated area to minimize the risk of infection
